A 10-year veteran of large-scale platform development, Derek Greentree has joined the BlipSnips team as CTO to lead development on the company’s next-generation mobile video product suite and cloud-based platform.

BlipSnips®, a developer of mobile social video software and a 2010 TechStars technology accelerator graduate, has announced today two critical milestones in its corporate growth. First, the Company has indicated that it has surpassed the 100,000 download mark for its iPhone application ‘BlipSnips for Facebook’, a product which allows users to easily shoot video, tag and comment about Facebook friends at key moments and publish this content to Facebook, where tagged parties are notified of their appearances. Second, the company just announced the hiring and appointment of Derek Greentree to the position of Chief Technology Officer to work with co-founders John Bliss (CEO) and Greg Keller (Chief Product Officer). The events mark significant gains in both user-share and the talent to execute on the Company’s quickly scaling platform and product road map.

Greentree possesses a decade of working on extremely hard data and software infrastructure problems. As software architect and primary engineering lead for Lijit Networks’ social-search platform, Greentree created and deployed new scalable data processing architecture based on Hadoop Map -- to collect and analyze web server traffic, providing reporting both for Lijit users as well as critical internal company purposes. During his tenure at Lijit, Greetree was instrumental in launching, maintaining, and scaling this search-centered web application and installable widget to over 12,000 websites collectively generating 700 million page views per month. Lijit Networks was also a common connection between BlipSnips co-founder Greg Keller and Greentree. Keller formally served as Vice President of Product and worked closely with Derek and Lijit’s development and architecture team.

“Developing quality software is challenging. Developing large-scale, hosted-platforms involving big data and a global user base is not only challenging but can be disastrous if not in the hands of great thinkers,” said Keller. “Derek is gifted and his abilities unmatched by the many, many engineers I’ve worked directly with in my past. Not many can traverse from abstract vision to the intricacies of our code as gracefully as he does. His appointment will be a key factor to the success of our new platform, currently in development.”

Greentree is excited to develop a leading edge, next generation mobile video platform designed to scale to millions of users. "BlipSnips has entered a rapidly growing market at exactly the right time to offer technology to consumers which weaves social, geo and other forms of data with video media. In our next release we're focused on delivering a smooth, simple, fun and completely new video engagement experience as well as expanding the reach of the social networks we integrate with,” says Greentree. “It's a lot of fun to be able to focus on the complexities of a platform that needs to make the user experience enjoyable."

Of his new employer, Greentree says "We have an extremely balanced team composed of those with powerful vision on the trajectory of the mobile video market, the ability to design and execute on product strategy as well as the experience to ensure the best and most effective means are employed to grow the platform and make its data actionable.”
