Research and evidence are keys to identifying interventions that make a difference

Dr. Winifred S. Hayes, PhD, President and CEO of Hayes, Inc., will be the featured guest on the May 13, 2011, radio broadcast of Life Love & Health hosted by Christopher Springmann. Dr. Hayes will discuss how scientific evidence can help patients with Alzheimer’s disease, their caregivers, and healthcare providers choose interventions that will make the most difference in the lives of patients with this devastating disease. In coordination with the radio broadcast of Life Love & Health, Hayes also will be hosting a free, 1-hour webinar about the neurobiology of drug development for Alzheimer’s disease on May 18, 2011, at 1:00 PM (ET).

“Evidence is hope. Research is hope,” explains Dr. Hayes. “And it may not feel this way to families who are grappling with Alzheimer’s, but there have been advances. We have a better understanding of what’s occurring in the brain as Alzheimer’s progresses. We have some beginning ideas of factors that might contribute to the occurrence of the disease. And as we gain more knowledge about the causes of Alzheimer’s, it sets a stage for possibilities for therapy, therapy that will be developed and tested through formal research.”

Dr. Hayes received her Doctor of Philosophy degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health (Bloomberg School of Public Health). A graduate of the University of Maryland School of Nursing, with Primary Care Nurse Practitioner and Master of Science degrees, she has served as an Associate Professor and Program Director for the Occupational Health Nursing Graduate Program at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. She also served on the faculties of Emory University and the University of Maryland. She is currently affiliated with the Senior Scholars Program in the Department of Health Policy at the Jefferson Medical College. Dr. Hayes lectures and publishes as an advocate for the role that evidence-based decision making plays in improving patient outcomes and healthcare resource allocation.

Life Love & Health airs on multiple XM and Sirius Satellite Radio news and talk stations, including ABC, CNN, Fox, and ESPN, on Public Radio (NPR) affiliates, on Wal-Mart Radio, and, internationally, on Voice of America and the American Forces Network. To hear Dr. Hayes’ interview, tune into the program at 2:00 PM Pacific – 5:00 PM Eastern on May 13, 2011, at HealthRadio.net on your Internet radio or portable device.
