US Patent Office awards patent to RIWEBB Incorporated for Multi-Representation Model Technology

RIWEBB Incorporated, a privately held provider of innovative technology solutions to 3D and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) product providers and users, today announced the issuance by the US Patent Office of Patent No.7,933,756 B2, Multi-Representational Model Having Two or More Models of a Mechanical Object.

The field of application of this invention spans the design of all products that require a variety of manufacturing operations and therefore different models at each stage of the production process. One natural application of this invention is in the design and manufacture of products that typically involve a significant percentage of cast parts, for example, automotive power train systems, where the as-cast design and the as-machined design models can be created in a semi-automated fashion from the conceptual design.

Although this invention is a natural enhancement to a Functional Modeling-based system, it can also enhance a history-based design system. "The vision of streamlining the design process toward more flexibility and performance, beyond the geometrical details, was pioneered long ago with the development of the Functional Modeling technology and related products,” says Attilio Rimoldi CEO of RIWEBB, “this newly patented invention adds to that thread by envisioning an integrated product definition where the design happens at a more conceptual level and a rule-based engine produces, in a semi-automatic fashion, the geometrical shapes that in turn satisfy the operational, and various manufacturing phase requirements in a unified representation.”

About RIWEBB Incorporated
