Medixsafe's Dual Access Narcotics Cabinet Solves Problem of Controlled Access to Controlled Substances for EMS and Paramedics

The MS I Narcotics Cabinet developed by MedixSafe is the first cabinet of its kind to implement a dual-access security feature.

In the fall of 2008 through a series of circumstances ESSC Inc. was contacted by Ted Katz the Fire Commissioner from Jericho, NY. Ted had a problem that needed a secure solution.

He was responsible for securing and accounting for all the narcotics purchased by Jericho Fire Department and used on their ambulances.

ESSC Inc. created a custom made narcotics cabinet per Jericho’s specifications with a dual credential device to gain entry into the narcotics cabinet. ESSC Inc. named the narcotics cabinet MedixSafe.

The MS I Narcotics Cabinet developed by MedixSafe is the first cabinet of its kind to implement a dual-access security feature. Unlike most other models on the market, which are opened with either a key or a PIN number, MS I requires two different credentials for entry: a unique PIN and a proximity card. This particular model was designed to accommodate many existing proximity cards and FOB’s. The cabinet is also equipped with an internal memory system that stores the date, time, and name for up to 2,000 entries—all managed by a laptop computer using custom software.
