Goddess Works LLC, a retail arm of The Goddess Foundation opens Saturday, June 11 at 200 Rosemont Avenue NE, one block north of Broadway and Mountain.

The public is invited to shop Goddess Works 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Saturday. The store features products from local artisans, products made in New Mexico, and specialty projects such as coin collection, gift a star and certificates to restore the spirit of women.

Owners Dr. Mae Araujo and Dr. Amy Atkins spent months planning, acquiring and remodeling the space and developing a website, http://www.universalgoddess.org.

“The Goddess Works offers a light-hearted approach to community. It honors women and their contributions. Our signature coin, for example, says ‘Expect Miracles.’ We invite everyone to experience positive collaboration and make a difference in the life of a child,” said Dr. Araujo.

For the past four years alone, Dr. Araujo and Dr. Atkins have successfully employed more than 1,000 tutors in a program to tutor at risk and homeless children. More than 2,375 low-income, at-risk children have been served since 2007. In January 2011 The Goddess Foundation received 501-c-3 nonprofit status in order to seek additional funding for this increasing population.

Proceeds from Goddess Works LLC fund the ongoing work of The Goddess Foundation, providing tutoring for homeless children, school literacy for at risk children, and “Small is Big” community projects. Past projects include “Around the Garden,” a collaboration with the Santa Fe Opera, literacy summer camps and Arts Connects, a five-state native-American effort to improve school success.
