Don’t miss this opportunity to experience grace from an incredible man, rather than just learn about it.
Newport Beach, CA (PRWEB) May 13, 2011
St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Newport Beach, welcomes Louis Zamperini, American Hero from bestselling book, Unbroken, to take part in 3 Sunday worship services on Memorial Weekend, May 29 at 8:00, 9:30 and 11:11 a.m., where he will share about his life story of unbelievable perseverance and grace.
Louis Zamperini is a former American Olympic distance runner, World War II prisoner of war survivor, and inspirational speaker. On May 27, 1943, two years after enlisting in the US Air Force, his plane crashed into the ocean. After drifting 2000 miles in 47 days aboard his life raft, he entered into Japanese controlled waters. His rescuers would be his torturers. While in a series of prison camps for the next two years, Japanese prison guards tried to break his spirit with verbal and physical cruelty, but Louis outlasted them. After the war, Louis attended an Evangelist Billy Graham crusade, which helped him change his life for good. Louis decided to become a missionary to Japan, preaching the Gospel of forgiveness to the very guards who had tormented him during the war. Richard Kannwischer, Senior Pastor of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, states, “I can’t wait to meet Louis Zamperini. He is a hero in the deepest sense of the word, not only because of his military duty, but his humility and ability to forgive.”
Why should anyone be interested in hearing Louis Zamperini share his story during the May 29, Sunday worship services at St. Andrew’s? Richard Kannwischer states, “We live in a time when we don’t know the stories of those who’ve gone before us. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience grace from an incredible man, rather than just learn about it.” His visit comes at the perfect time, not only because of Memorial Weekend, but because his story ties in to the current St. Andrew’s sermon series. Pastor Kannwischer states, “The St. Andrew’s community is currently going through a study of Ephesians, and the weekend Louis is here, we will focus on the 3rd chapter. In this chapter, Paul, the author of Ephesians, talks about real power available to you and me. But what is real power? I invite you to come and find out!”
