On the Path LLC (http://onthepath.com) released the new version of their best-selling iPad app, “On the Music Path”, today accompanied by a video of Academy award-winner, Jeff Bridges, demoing a guitar lesson by Jackson Browne. Bridges calls the app a “blessing” for anyone wanting to learn to play an instrument, but admits that the “Dude”, the well-loved slacker character played by Bridges in “The Big Lebowski”, might only be interested in learning to play the kazoo.

“I’ve got a whole slew of guys I want to learn from,” Bridges explains. “And now I can. Thanks to this app.”

Proving that at the heart of the true artist lies an eternal student, Academy award-winning actor, singer-songwriter and multi-talented artisan, Jeff Bridges, says he “digs” the “On the Music Path” app and is “excited” about learning to play “These Days”, one of the songs taught by Rock-and-Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Jackson Browne, in a lesson for intermediate guitarists available exclusively through the app (http://onthepath.com/AppStore.html).

Shot in high-definition video by award-winning cinematographer, Alan Kozlowski, the “On the Music Path” iPad app offers carefully structured lessons on how to play the guitar, piano, drums and bass from a star-studded cast of world-renowned musicians, including Jackson Browne, Richard Thompson, Vonda Shepard, Leland Sklar, Steve Ferrone, Ravi Shankar and many others. Bridges can be seen using the best-selling iPad app in a video released today by On the Path LLC to accompany the latest version of their product (http://onthepath.com/JeffBridgesDemo).

In the unscripted video, Bridges dives into Browne’s explanation of “open G tunings” and demos his favorite features of the app, including the ability to slow the teacher’s demonstration down to ¼ of its original speed and to set in and out points to loop a particular section of music. Although Bridges seems impressed by the app’s technological wizardry, he makes a point of telling viewers that “it’s not about the technology. It’s about the age-old tradition of teaching” in which a master passes down their craft to an apprentice. “I’ve got a whole slew of guys I want to learn from,” Bridges explains. “And now I can. Thanks to this app.”

Bridges first saw the On the Music Path app while working with Kozlowski on a promotional video for Bridges’ new album being released by EMI's Blue Note Records late this summer. "As soon as Jeff saw the app, his eyes lit up like a child's," says Kozlowski, On the Path’s founder and creative director. “Jeff spends a great deal of time on the road and always has a thousand projects on his plate,” explains Kozlowski. “So the portability of the iPad-based lesson was a big selling point. Now Jeff can take Jackson’s lesson wherever he goes and work on it whenever it’s convenient."

Bridges calls the app a “blessing” for anyone interested in learning to play an instrument. But when asked what instrument he thinks the “Dude” would want to learn, Bridges admits that the well-loved slacker character he played in the Coen brothers’ film, “The Big Lebowski”, might only be interested in playing the “kazoo.”

ABOUT THE APP

The On the Music Path app was created by On the Path LLC and is available exclusively through Apple’s App Store (http://onthepath.com/AppStore.html). Each lesson costs between $4.99 and $19.99 and includes 45-85 minutes of one-on-one lesson time with a master musician accompanied by musical notation, chord charts, lyrics and guitar tablature synchronized to the teacher’s playing. Users can try out the first few chapters of any lesson for free (including the first 10 chapters of Jackson Browne’s lesson). The app also offers a built-in digital tuner and metronome at no additional charge.

The On the Music Path app has been a critically-acclaimed, top-ranked app since its initial release at the end of April. “On the Music Path has to be one of the most ambitious iPad apps for guitarists built yet,” extols Fretboard Journal. On the Music Path is presently one of the top 10 most downloaded paid iPad apps in Music in the U.S. App Store and is featured as a “New and Noteworthy” or “What’s Hot” app in over 90 stores worldwide.
