A mother parrot teaches her son the skills he needs to fend for himself in the jungle in D. Bhandari’s Growing Wings: Parrot’s Day Out (published by AuthorHouse), a colorful new children’s book that will help human parents show their own offspring how to make it on their own in today’s increasingly complex, modern jungle.
In the middle of a dense forest, a single parrot mother raises her son alone after his father’s death. She provides food, shelter and comfort, and her son relies on her for all basic necessities, unable to perform any kind of task on his own.
Realizing that her son has reached the age where he needs to learn how to be more independent, the mother parrot hatches an idea for teaching him how to behave and survive without her. The following day, after an excursion into an unfamiliar part of the jungle, she flies away out of sight, where she’s able to observe how he reacts to her absence.
When the young parrot discovers that his mother is seemingly nowhere to be found, his initial reaction is one of fear and panic. He must gather his bearings and make his way back to her, a process that will, in the end, show him how to talk to strangers and navigate stressful situations on his own.
Children will be transfixed by the whimsical characters and bright backgrounds illustrated by Kamesh Regmi in this story that subtly conveys important lessons about self-sufficiency and courage. Start building the foundation for confidence and success early by introducing young readers and listeners to Growing Wings.
