More than 15 of the world’s finest wine producers will team up in Belfast this week to host an exclusive tasting, it has been revealed.

The Meet the Winemakers event, which takes place at the Merchant Hotel in Belfast on 17th May, coincides with the inaugural National Wine Month and is organised by County Down wine specialist JNwine.com.

Running throughout May and coordinated by the Wine & Spirit Education Trust, National Wine Month is designed to bring the industry together to create greater awareness of the produce.

The UK-wide initiative includes a series of tasting events, wine courses and promotional competitions for consumers and merchants.

JNwine.com Managing Director, James Nicholson, said the Belfast tasting was a rare chance for consumers to meet some of the world’s best independent winemakers.

“We’re lucky in this business that we get to travel to vineyards across the globe and build personal relationships with the winemakers we work with. It’s not something many of our customers can do and that’s why events like this are important.

“You learn much more about the history of your favourite wines and the art involved in making them when the people behind the process tell their story face-to-face. It’s also a great occasion to sample other varieties and be inspired to try something new.”

The list of celebrated winemakers offering personal introductions to their produce includes
Colin Palmer from Champagne-house Billecart-Salmon, Charlie Cline from California’s award-winning Cline Cellars, Giulio Parentini of Morisfarms in Italy, Marco Caschera from Burgundy’s Domaine Vincent Girardin and Marc Kent from South Africa’s renowned Porcupine Ridge.

Meet the Winemakers takes place from 6pm on Tuesday 17th May in the Rita Duffy Room at the Merchant Hotel Belfast.

Tickets are priced at £15 and must be purchased in advance by contacting James Nicholson Wine Merchant on 028 4483 0091 or logging onto JNwine.com. Places are limited.
