HomeTown Health University currently offering free web-based education to rural Georgia physician practices made available at http://www.teleconnectga.com

HomeTown Health University

Free web-based education is now available for Georgia’s rural physician practices online at http://www.teleconnectga.com.

HomeTown Health University (HTHU), in partnership with the Georgia Partnership for TeleHealth, has developed education that will provide Broadband and HIT education to more than 5000 physicians and practice managers in rural Georgia through Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP). The goals of GPT’s BTOP grant are to promote the expansion of broadband and increase access to healthcare in rural and medically underserved areas through the innovative use of technology and improved access to primary care by equipping and expanding the current GPT telehealth broadband network from 133 access points to 185 access points and through education and outreach introducing all, from rural healthcare providers to low income families, to the advantages of using broadband technology to access healthcare services, to share and exchange health information and access the internet to receive health and wellness information.

Through the BTOP grant, free web-based training is available to Rural Georgia Physician Office Employees which includes courses recommended by the ONC and listed on the HIT curriculum component blueprints, starting with Introduction to Computing, along with HIPAA Compliance, Microsoft Office 2007 and many more courses to help physician office employees fulfill basic IT/Broadband education needs.
