The law firm of Wells, Purcell & Kraatz has announced that the firm is now accepting insurance coverage and bad faith claims on behalf of Possum Kingdom residents who lost homes in recent wild fires

The law firm of Wells, Purcell & Kraatz has announced that the firm is now accepting insurance coverage and bad faith claims on behalf of Possum Kingdom residents who lost homes in recent wild fires that burned 126,734 acres and 167 homes.

Ft. Worth attorney Davis Purcell stated, “Most of the homeowners on the lake at Possum Kingdom are in an unusual situation, since many homes are built on land that is actually owned by the Brazos River Authority and leased to the homeowner.”

He added, “Texas allows each insurance company to write their own policies so the exact coverage for each homeowner will vary, depending on the insurance company and when the policy is issued.

Wells, Purcell & Kraatz recommends that the homeowners at Possum Kingdom take several steps to recover for their loss under the policies they purchased.

1. Notify your insurance agent about the loss.

2. Locate your policy and read it to find out what is covered for this particular loss.

3. If you cannot find your policy, you should request a copy of the ENTIRE policy from your insurance agent.

Attorney Purcell explained, “Often an agent will only provide the declarations page or part of the policy. It is very important to get the complete policy, including the endorsements, because that will directly affect the coverage available for this specific loss.”

Ken Kraatz, a partner at Wells, Purcell & Kraatz advises homeowners to prepare for meetings with their insurance adjuster. He points out, “Typically the adjuster will request an inventory and valuation for all of the property in your home, including furniture and personal articles. Photographs of the inside and outside of the home are also helpful in evaluating the proper amount of compensation for your loss.”

Mr. Kraatz noted, “Although it is a sad and difficult time for people who lost their homes, it is still important to cooperate with the insurance adjuster by providing access to the property and responding to reasonable requests for information.”
