Coolfire Solutions™, a St. Louis-based software development company which specializes in mobile application technology for military and commercial enterprise users, announces it will debut its SCOUT™ (Satellite Communications Operational User Toolkit) at SOFIC.

SCOUT by Coolfire Solutions

Our goal was to replace 57 buttons and knobs and a couple cases of test gear with one simple workflow-based interface. SCOUT increases user comprehension by decreasing the number of steps needed to set up a terminal.

SCOUT employs a revolutionary new user interface that leverages the simplicity and intuitiveness of multi-touch platforms such as iPhones, iPads and Android devices. SCOUT allows novice users to locate, acquire, and verify a satellite communications link with little or no advanced training.

SCOUT combines all of the tools a SATCOM installer would need to set up, monitor and troubleshoot a satellite link into a single 6-lb. box, reducing the weight a field service rep (FSR) carries in some cases by more than 95%.

Tom Cox, President of Coolfire Solutions said, "SCOUT is a huge leap forward in tactical satellite communications operations. As a former Field Service Engineer, I would carry up to 150 lbs. of equipment in large transit cases all across the globe to setup and test satellite communications links. Now engineers and technicians can carry the same capability on to a plane in their laptop bag."

By combining the ability to make simple user interfaces with a deep understanding of the end users' needs, Coolfire brings entirely new solutions to problems always thought unsolvable. The Coolfire process of Ideation, Innovation and Iteration allows for listening to problems, thinking of ways to solve them, and working with customers iteratively to hone the solution into highly useful products.

"The purpose of SCOUT is not to replace a process but instead to streamline it,” says John Dames, Coolfire Solutions’ Chief Technology Officer. “Our goal was to replace 57 buttons and knobs and a couple cases of test gear with one simple workflow-based interface. SCOUT increases user comprehension by decreasing the number of steps needed to set up a terminal. Instead of using several tools with different user interfaces, the user is using one device with a familiar interface,” said Dames.

At SOFIC, the Solutions team will be demonstrating the product focusing on the user interface. The hardware case will be separate from “the guts” of the toolkit. This will give potential customers a chance to see what really goes into SCOUT. The full design, development and sales team will be in attendance at the conference.
