How did two unemployed moms start an online shopping site for men and women?

It was the end of the line. After suffering through challenges too great for mere mortals to overcome Alice and Sandra were stumped. Unemployed moms and down on their luck, the two women had nowhere to turn for jobs. Foreclosure loomed ahead, food was becoming scarce and hopes were dwindling right along with the balance in their bank accounts.

So what did these two unemployed mothers resort to? “Welcome to Allyoops, an online shopping site for men and women”, says Alice. Shoppers will find the best scented candles, decorative wall swords, water fountains for the garden and much more inside. But wait, what brought on that idea? Well, it all started back in 1999 at a small non-profit organization nestled within a rural community on the Pacific Coast.

About Allyoops:
Two women, still in their twenties, were about to meet for the first time. An impressed Executive Director, founder of the local organization, had just hired Sandra. In her interview Sandra clearly stated that her kids came first. Alice was the exact opposite, work came first.

As the two young women grew professionally they found themselves working together more often. A strong friendship was formed as they learned to operate as a team and achieve common goals. They taught each other about the meaning of success and the importance of balancing family and work life.

Starting a business together was the next natural step after nine years as co-workers. It wasn’t easy. Market analysis shows that online gift stores are all over the internet. Further, getting ranked in the search engines would mean developing a strong command of search engine optimization (SEO) techniques. SEO was a new concept to Alice, responsible for advertising.

The budget was virtually non-existent and the learning curve steep. Alice felt like starting the online store was like playing a game of poker and she was never really good at playing cards. After all, college friends would make no bones about singing Kenny Rodger’s “The Gambler” to her back in the day. But giving up on their dream was not an option. They had an Ace in their deck and the women were bound and determined to play it.

Allyoops focuses on a fun and relationship-driven customer experience. It’s an online store with a story about real people behind it. Grand opening begins Monday, May 30th and runs through June 15th. Shoppers receive a 25% discount on all orders placed during the stores grand opening.

Alice and Sandra are excited to celebrate their version of the American dream with customers. They offer a rich shopping experience that includes eCatalogs, gift registry, reward program and even gift cards for shoppers who just don't know what to give their friends and family.
