As high school students nationwide prepare to graduate and start their college careers, parents may also be throwing their caps in the air as they cheer their children’s success. Getting into college, however, is only the beginning. Succeeding in college – both academically and socially – is another matter. Deliberate Living’s College Success Program, a unique coaching and consulting service for students at schools around the country, was designed to bolster college success skills on all levels.
With college dropout rates reaching 30 percent and the average student taking 5 ½ years to complete a four-year degree, more and more students need a resource for academic skills that helps keep them on track. The College Success Program is conducted by phone, email, text and online and works with students from around the country looking to develop college success strategies. It helps students implement effective time management and study strategies that can boost their grades – without sacrificing their social life or sleep.
“I developed the College Success Program because so many students get to college and struggle with increased academic demands, unstructured time and social opportunities. The skills needed to succeed in college are different than the ones used in hight school,” said Jennifer Viemont, president of Deliberate Living. “In addition to teaching time management skills and study strategies, I help students create their own college success plan that acts as a guide as they navigate their way through the challenges and opportunities they encounter in college.”
Viemont is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and her background as a school social worker, therapist and life coach led her to develop the College Success Program. She uses an online calendar to provide consistent feedback to students on their implementation of time management strategies. Weekly calls and regular emails are used to help students surmount any college-related challenges and create lasting college success skills.
