On Saturday, May 21, 2011 at in Thompson Park, many will gather to watch as kids race down a hill to win the derby and a spot to race at the National Soap Box Derby in Akron, Ohio. The All American Soap Box Derby has become a tradition within the Amarillo area and this year Street Toyota and Scion will be helping to make the participants’ dreams come true by sponsoring it.
The event will begin on May 21 at 8 am. Hot laps will begin at 7 am the morning of the race. The back up date for the Soap Box Derby will be June 11. More details may be found online at http://www.amarillosoapboxderby.org. All rules, regulations, waivers and forms can be found at this site.
The event is for a not-for-profit educational organization and is open to all children, ages 8-17. The event is used to encourage children to take part in educational activities and learn the skill of teamwork.
Dave Walker, Street Toyota’s Scion Sales Specialist, will be announcing for the race this year.
“It’s fun to be involved in events such as this. The kids have a blast, but I think I may have more fun than they do,” said Walker.
Walker along with multiple other Street Toyota employees and valued customers will be attending the event to cheer on the kids participating.
