The tornadoes have left many of our neighbors injured or homeless. It’s our responsibility to help them get their lives back.
(PRWEB) May 18, 2011
As tornado-ravaged communities in Alabama and Mississippi seek to recover and rebuild from the destructive storms that swept through the South, PLS and the Western Union Foundation are combining to send much-needed aid.
More than 300 people were killed, and hundreds more injured, when a massive outbreak of tornadoes started in Mississippi and swept north and east. Alabama was particularly hard-hit, suffering more than half the fatalities.
“The tornadoes have left many of our neighbors injured or homeless,” said Brian Johnson, Senior VP of Field Operations, PLS. “It’s our responsibility to help them get their lives back. We’ve made a $1,000 contribution to the American Red Cross for relief in these communities. And now we’re making an additional $2,500 donation, which will be matched by the Western Union Foundation, for a combined total of $6,000.”
The Western Union Foundation’s “Agent Giving Circles” program assists Western Union Agents in supporting their local communities. PLS received dollar-for-dollar matching funds for the second contribution to the American Red Cross, for a combined total of $5,000.
“PLS is one of Western Union’s top check casher Agents,” said Rob Koewler, Director of Strategic Accounts for Western Union. “We’re pleased to match their contribution to the American Red Cross with funds from the Western Union Foundation to help the rebuilding process.”
“The PLS family has been affected by these storms,” said Johnson. “Our store team members, and our neighbors, have seen the worst of what nature can bring. We’re going to continue to assist until these communities have been restored.”
