On Wednesday, June 15, Northeast Ohio’s Center for Orthopedics (CFO) will offer free sports physicals for student athletes. The Third Annual Sports Physical Event will be held at the CFO’s main clinic at 5001 Transportation Drive in Sheffield Village, Ohio.
“We’re expecting up to 500 students from the five-county Cleveland area,” says board-certified orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist Daniel Zanotti, MD. “The Center for Orthopedics presents this event to the community each year as a way to give back to our patients and younger athletes in the area.
“We realize that in today’s economy, sometimes it’s hard to pay for sports physicals, so we’re providing them free of charge for students,” Dr. Zanotti explains.
Students who wish to participate in the Annual Sports Physical Event should call the Center for Orthopedics at 440.329.2863 by Wednesday, June 1 to reserve their spot. Participating students can download the Ohio High School Athletic Association physical form and complete it before their appointment to save time on the day of the event.
“The Ohio Athletic Department recommends that students get a yearly physical for their sports participation,” says Dr. Zanotti. “This basically consists of a general examination—listening to the heart and lungs, and checking out the hips, knees and shoulders to make sure there are no injuries that would prevent an athlete from participating or cause harm during the season.
“The Annual Sports Physical Event is a quick way for students to get a good physical examination, to make sure they don’t have any injuries that could hurt them during the season, and to ensure they’re healthy and ready for the school year,” Dr. Zanotti adds.
The Center for Orthopedics has a team of five board-certified orthopedic surgeons who specialize in sports medicine. “Our sports medicine specialists are actively involved in the Lorain County community,” says Dr. Zanotti. “We are team physicians for Clearview High School, Brookside High School, Elyria High School and Amherst High School.”
To participate in the Annual Sports Physical Event, call the Center for Orthopedics at 440.329.2863 by Wednesday, June 1.

In CFO’s Open Cast Room—now open at all three of its locations—patients can be seen the next day when they have been to the emergency room for a broken bone. “Our web site’s Fast Track makes it easy for patients to schedule their next-day Open Cast Room appointments and complete their paperwork online,” says Dr. Zanotti.
