Cloud communications company Voxeo today announced their developer platform for SMS applications called SMSified. With SMSified, developers can build nearly any SMS application including inbound auto-respond messages, interactive outbound notifications, news alerts, marketing messages and more. SMS messages can be sent and received for only a penny per text in the U.S. – making it the easiest and most affordable SMS application provider in the market.

According to a recent study by ABI Research, consumers worldwide will send more than 7 trillion SMS messages in 2011. Beyond person-to-person SMS usage, organizations are rapidly building this type of communication into their products and services to improve their offerings for consumers and enterprises.

Voxeo's new SMSified offering will be the first commercial deployment in the U.S. of the GSM Association’s OneAPI open standard for SMS. OneAPI-enabled services can be plugged into any compliant operator, allowing for the rapid deployment of SMS services across multiple service providers and across international markets.

"SMSified eliminates the need for developers to build expensive proprietary integrations to multiple phone networks, which means developers can spend less time integrating and more time creating new applications," said Voxeo CEO Jonathan Taylor. “We’re proud to open the SMS door for developers at any scale,” Taylor added.

SMSified provides developers with free SMS credits and one free phone number, giving them the ability to test their application for functionality before it goes into production. There are no contracts or set-up fees and developers only pay for what they use.

“Offering a REST-based API for text messaging makes it incredibly easy for Geoloqi to add SMS to our web applications,” said Amber Case, co-founder of Geoloqi. “The idea of using a standard interface like OneAPI is even better because we aren’t locked in. The applications we develop for SMSified can work with other systems as well, which is awesome.”

SMSified works with all major carriers including AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, Virgin Mobile, MetroPCS, U.S. Cellular and many more.
