Manitowoc Ice has just unveiled its newest commercial ice machine—the Indigo. The Indigo ice machine represents innovative operational systems with advanced, easy to use on board computer systems. The results are: ice production that is clean, efficient, and reliable.
Amongst the cutting-edge features on the Indigo, is an advanced diagnostics system that constantly monitors all systems of the ice machine as well as the production of ice. This diagnostics system uses the information it gathers to ensure optimal energy use (if desired by the owner), owner initiated ice production levels, efficient owner scheduled and computer scheduled cleaning processes, higher ice quality (if desired by the owner – great for areas with hard water), ease of use and improved sanitation. The machine reports all critical information in its easy to read on-board display.

Along with constant monitoring of the ice machine’s sub-system controls and refrigeration, the machine can be programmed to perform according to a schedule that is set by the owner. “Customers can schedule ice production based on a day of the week or a time of day that they want or need ice. At other times, they can virtually shut the machine down to reduce energy costs,” said Mr. Newman.
Machine down time is also reduced. The on-board systems will alert service personnel what is not working correctly. If needed the information can be downloaded onto a flash memory stick for diagnosing more complicated issues back at the servicer’s office.
Additionally, the Indigo uses the LuminIce™ growth inhibitor system to reduce the bacteria, mold, and yeast growth. “Having safer, more hygienic ice is good for diners and restaurants,” said Mr. Newman.
