User-friendly, ‘single-action’ latches and leak resistancy among key features of new carrier for 6-inch pneumatic tube systems

Swisslog, a leading provider of automated materials transport and medication management solutions for hospitals, today announced that its next-generation Eco-Seal carrier for 6-inch pneumatic tube systems will be available this fall.

Today’s announcement was made in Baltimore where Swisslog is exhibiting in booth #600 at CLMA ThinkLab ’11, the annual conference & exhibition of the Clinical Laboratory Management Association.

A carrier is a reusable polycarbonate container that holds and protects small medical items sent through a pneumatic tube system (PTS). Because of its sophisticated engineering and robust construction, which includes patented DuraBand wear bands and a sealed leak-resistant barrier, Swisslog’s next-generation 6-inch carrier will deliver a significant return-on-investment (ROI) by reducing maintenance and replacement costs. What’s more, Swisslog’s next-generation carrier features easy-to-use, “single-action” latches, which make it much more user-friendly than the three-step latch system used in the first-generation design, which has been popular for more than 15 years.

“Only Swisslog’s 6-inch Eco-Seal carrier is built to withstand the rigors of constant PTS transport,” said Charlie Kegley, president of Swisslog Healthcare Solutions North America. “Our newest carrier provides safe, reliable transport of fragile hospital materials including lab specimens, IVs, pharmaceuticals, and other biohazards. And when you just can’t risk downtime of your critical tube system because of a spill, and the ensuing clean-up, the specially designed ‘wiper’ seal barrier in Swisslog’s 6-inch Eco-Seal carrier is your best protection.”

Below are some key features that differentiate Swisslog’s next-generation 6-inch Eco-Seal carrier from all others.

Standard:

  •     User-friendly, single-action latch system
  •     Patented DuraBand wear bands for long life
  •     Sealed wiper barrier for spill containment
  •     Improved structural design for reduced breakage

Available Options:

  •     Patented RFID technology for traceability and dedicated assignment to specific depts.
  •     Patent-pending BacStop anti-microbial technology
  •     Color, half-color and frosted-end configurations
  •     Zip N’ Fold containment pouch for additional spill protection
