The Directors of Senetas Corporation Limited (ASX:SEN), Australia’s world-leading data protection company, today announced that its Senetas CN range of high speed network encryptors were entering the 'in evaluation' phase of CESG CAPS approval in United Kingdom.

CAPS (CESG Assisted Products Service) is a UK Government Cryptographic evaluation service run by CESG, the UK’s National Technical Authority for Information Assurance. Achieving CAPS certification will allow UK Government and Public Sector departments to use Senetas Encryptors to meet their Baseline (IL3) security and compliance needs.

Senetas Chairman and CEO, John DuBois said Senetas encryptors were already certified to two other global standards – the US-sponsored FIPS 140-2 Level 3 and Common Criteria EAL4+.

“This is a significant development for the company in UK and Europe. We believe strongly in the certification process because, although it is expensive in dollars, time and resources, it is critical that customers in Government and State agencies can have full confidence that a vendor’s claimed information assurance is both effective and securely implemented,” Mr DuBois said.

“Choosing purpose-built technology accredited to an independent, internationally recognised standard such as CAPS, helps ensure trust in the quality of the solution and is therefore of paramount importance for all our clients, whether government or commercial,” he said.

The primary products for the Senetas CAPS submission are the Senetas CN1000 Ethernet encryptor operating at 10/100 Mbps and 1 Gbps, Senetas CN3000 Ethernet (10 Gbps) and Senetas Fibre Channel (up to 4 Gbps).

The Senetas SONET (up to 10 Gbps) range of encryptors will follow in the submission.

About CAPS (CESG Assisted Products Service)
CAPS helps private sector companies to develop cryptographic products for use by Her Majesty’s Government (HMG) and other appropriate organisations. CAPS links the cryptographic knowledge of CESG (the national technical authority for information assurance) with the private sector's expertise and resources.

CAPS is a service for companies interested in commercial risk developments for the UK government market, which provides access to CESG's knowledge, skills and experience in the field of Information Assurance, supplemented by a range of guidance documentation. CAPS vendors may incorporate appropriate CESG cryptographic or public domain algorithms in their products and submit them for evaluation by CESG. When approved, these products may be advertised as suitable for purchase by Her Majesty's Government (HMG) as well as the UK public sector.
