Partners Reed Construction Data (RCD), the AIA Council of Architectural Component Executives (CACE) and Hanley Wood teamed with sponsors Old Castle, Hunter Douglas, PGT, Bluewolf, MAPEI, Naylor, The Vinyl Institute and volunteers from the AEC community to help rebuild five houses in the Ninth Ward of New Orleans on May 11, 2011.
The AEC Cares community service project was organized by New Orleans Operation Helping Hands, a nonprofit organization that provides residential construction-based services, labor and materials to damaged New Orleans homes, with the help of volunteer professionals from the architecture, engineering, manufacturing and contracting industries.
“I’d like to personally thank the NOLA homeowners for allowing us to be a part of the rebuilding process of their homes and to our partners, sponsors and many volunteers - thank you - for the selfless efforts in making this project happen. We could not have done it without you,” said Steve Ritchie, Reed Construction Data Vice President of Marketing and Business Development. “I am deeply moved by the warm welcomes and expressed gratitude received by the New Orleans community. This project has helped to build invaluable relationships that will stay with us for years to come.”
Keynote speakers in support of AEC Cares – projectNOLA on May 11th included Mr. Westley Bayas III, Deputy Director of Neighborhood Engagement, on behalf of New Orleans Mayor, Mitchell J. Landrieu, and Mr. Gordon Wadge, President & CEO of Catholic Charities.
Monetary and material contributions to the project consisted of over $30,000 in cash and $45,000 of in-kind product donations. The May 11 project comprised a full day of physical labor with hundreds of attributed man hours prior to the event date.
