Vetionx announced today they will be releasing a re-formulated version of their popular flea, tick, and mange shampoo, Defendex. The new blend of FDA approved ingredients is exactly the same as before, minus two ingredients - Sodium laureth sulfate and Lauramide DEA.
“We are taking a proactive approach to eliminate any ingredient in our products with potential harmful consequences to pets,” noted CEO and President, Albert Douibes. “We’ve never encountered an issue with this ingredient in our shampoo in the past. However, after reviewing the formula, we decided we could maintain the integrity and effectiveness of the product by removing the controversial ingredient.”
Sodium laureth sulfate or sodium lauryl ether sulfate (SLES), is a detergent and surfactant found in many personal care products (soaps, shampoos, toothpaste etc.). SLES is an inexpensive and very effective foaming agent. SLES has been shown to produce eye or skin irritation in experimental animals and in some human test subjects.
Lauramide DEA is typically used as a surfactant, foam booster, viscosity controller and antistatic control. It has also shown to be skin irritant in both animals and humans.
The new formula is in final testing phase and will be released sometime in July of 2011. Customers are encouraged to watch for an announcement during this time confirming the product will be ready to order and ship.
