Ucompass.com, Inc., a leading provider of technology solutions for education and learning, and Florida Virtual School (FLVS), an established leader in developing and providing virtual education solutions to students in Florida, are honored to be joint recipients of a prestigious IMS Platinum Learning Impact Award.
The IMS Learning Impact Awards (LIAs) are given out by the IMS Global Learning Consortium (GLC) to recognize the use of technology to improve learning across all education segments and in all regions of the world. IMS GLC represents more than 160 Member organizations and Common Cartridge & Learning Tools Interoperability Alliance participants from every sector of the global learning community. The award was announced last night at the IMS annual Learning Impact conference taking place in Long Beach, California.
The IMS LIA awards are unique in that they recognize the use of technology in context, and nominations include information about the technology, and about how it is used in instruction. The entries are evaluated on multiple criteria, including improving access to learning, improving affordability of learning, and improving the quality of learning.
The two organizations were jointly awarded the Platinum Learning Impact Award for the New and Research Entries category for their innovative implementation of Octane, a revolutionary system to enrich legacy learning content with interactive tools and functionality. Octane was deployed at FLVS to add new functionality to its learning content.
“This award speaks volumes about the challenges content publishers are facing,” said Edward Mansouri, chief executive officer for Ucompass.com, Inc. “They are expected to deliver more engaging and interactive learning experiences, but they are working with limited budgets to revamp their materials. This is where Octane shines, as it adds new life to legacy content without new production costs. ”
“We are thrilled to receive this award,” said Julie Young, president and chief executive officer at Florida Virtual School. “Our goal is to deliver a high quality, technology-based education that provides a unique, interactive learning experience for every FLVS student. By enhancing our legacy content with Octane, we are able to increase student engagement and help our kids succeed.”
