Self taught designer, Ricky Lindsay is willing to custom make any style whether formal, casual, evening, or couture. He has even made a replica of the Kate Middleton Wedding Gown.

Salon Estetica An AVEDA Concept Spa in Riverview, FL recently hosted An Evening of Fashion, Fun and the Arts featuring couture, every day and fantasy fashion items all custom designed in-house by Manager Ricky Lindsay. Lindsay studied to become a hair stylist at the Aveda Institute but just last year he discovered that his self-taught hobby of clothing design was the true direction for his creative spirit.

Lindsay, familiar with a sewing machine, began to experiment with draping and pattern making and eventually taught himself how to make what he considers to be body conscious clothing.

“I love the shape of the human form and I’m always inspired to make beautiful body conscious clothing. I’m very inspired by the texture and movement of fabric, as well as color schemes,” he said.

For four years, Lindsay has assisted in managing the salon in preparation for his career as a hair stylist within the industry. When the Aveda Institute in St. Petersburg held a benefit fashion show for Breast Cancer Awareness last year, Lindsay submitted three of his custom pieces. “While designing, sewing and working with the models and fitting them, I quickly realized this was my real passion,” he explained.

Aside from the recent fashion show at Salon Estetica, which saw about 150 people in attendance and raised money for the Gulf Restoration Network, Lindsay is also working on developing his clothing line, 9 Sirens, a nod to ancient Greek mythology. “To me, sirens are the ultimate feminine beauty and symbol of desire and love, and I wish to convey this in my clothing. And nine is my favorite number,” he explained.

Towards the goal of expansion, Lindsay is willing to custom make any style whether formal, causal, evening or couture. “I personally enjoy making extravagant beautiful gowns,” he said, but he explained, he can, “custom make pretty much anything.” The Kate Middleton wedding gown is almost completed. You will be able to find a replica of the Duchess of Cambridge's dress on the website. Do you need the bridesmaid Pippa's bridal dress? Just let Ricky know.

The price range for any custom design depends on the style of design, the cost of materials and labor. Lindsay has charged as little as $50 to as much as $2,000 for a design. “Some dresses can literally be made in an afternoon while some take me three weeks. Sometimes a dress can cost $10 to make and some of my more expensive gowns have $500 worth of materials,” he explained.

Lindsay’s designs, photo shoots and runway work can be found online at as well as on his blog at
