Open Concept Gallery names two new interns for the 2011 gallery season

West Michigan's Primary Source for Modern Art Exhibits

Open Concept Gallery, a nonprofit gallery featuring contemporary art, announced today it has named two new interns for the upcoming season. Open Concept Gallery creates internship opportunities for students of art where real-world experiences can complement their studies and build solid skills for their future jobs as artists and art administrators.

Katie Kieft is an undergrad at Michigan State University studying English and specializing in Art History. She grew up on the East Side of the state just outside of Ann Arbor, but she recently relocated to the Grand Rapids area. Her responsibilities as a curator intern at Open Concept Gallery will include working on the MARTINI: art and news cocktail and helping to create the new concept program, Art Talk, a program we are to be launching very soon.

Maureen Riley will be a junior at Saint Xavier University in Chicago, Illinois, where she’s studying Art History and Communications and is in the honors program. She will step into her curator internship at Open Concept Gallery and will be working immediately on procurement duties tied to an upcoming installation of Ugo Rondinone's neon sculpture Big Mind Sky for the gallery.

“These two new curators will be an exciting addition to the ever changing personality of Open Concept Gallery,” noted Dr. Zora Carrier, Executive Director of the gallery. “Each year I’m always amazed at the way their contributions continue to refresh and renew our mission and the projects we bring to the public here in West Michigan."

Open Concept Gallery began operations in 2006 as a non-profit institution dedicated to increasing the understanding of 21st century art and today’s important social issues. The nonprofit gallery organizes a wide range of educational programs for audiences of all ages, in conjunction with the contemporary art exhibits it hosts. It serves as a platform that allows the community to collectively consider different perspectives, raise new questions and discover new approaches to the challenges of our times.
