Voyages in English, the grammar and writing curriculum from Loyola Press, has been named a finalist in the 2011 AEP Awards.

Grammar and writing took center stage recently with the nomination of Voyages in English for the 2011 AEP Awards, which recognize excellence in educational text books. “The nomination underscores the idea that basic grammar and writing skills lay the groundwork for successful language arts education,” said Joellyn Cicciarelli, director of curriculum development for Loyola Press, the publisher of Voyages in English.

Voyages in English, now in its 69th consecutive year in publication, will compete in the Distinguished Achievement Awards for Curriculum—Reading and Language Arts category. The winners will be announced at the AEP Awards Banquet & Gala, June 8, 2011, at the Omni Shoreham in Washington, DC.

The 2011 edition of Voyages in English is based on decades of research and real-world, in-classroom experience in language arts education. Its bright colors, engaging graphics, and online games and homework aids appeal to students. Teachers appreciate the Voyages … series for its volume of support materials and lesson-planning aids.

“We designed Voyages in English to help students exceed the standard level of mastery,” said Cicciarelli. “It’s a challenging program that provides many opportunities for students to practice and review the fundamental skills of language to ensure mastery and improved performance on standardized tests. We’ve seen how the successful mastery of language arts skills in the primary grades leads students to excel throughout their education and beyond.”

The Distinguished Achievement Awards (DAAs) are judged according to category (Curriculum, Periodicals, Professional Development, and Technology), subject area, and grade level.

Entries are evaluated on traits such as efficacy, usability, and overall educational value.
