It is a well-known maxim of learning that what comes easily to some, can be challenging for others. In no other subject does that hold more weight than literacy. There are thousands of children and young adults who experience difficulty reading. Now, the new book The Gift of Words: A Resource for Parents and Educators (published by AuthorHouse) by Janice Irish featuring Illustrations by Muriel Tuttle Eden-Paul provides an aide for teachers and parents to help elementary to twelfth grade students who struggle with reading.

Students who utilize remedial reading tools can make great strides, but the content is often very basic and can often be boring for students. With the use of poetry and illustrations, The Gift of Words provides an engaging way for students struggling with literacy to both learn and be engaged in the content.

Not only does The Gift of Words provide material that can be used in teaching literacy and comprehension, but also teaches character traits. Furthermore, in the hands of parents, The Gift of Words provides a doorway to communication. The Gift of Words gives positive examples of how to use poetry and other art forms to express words in a positive way. It also has tips for parents and educators on how to use the poems.

Addressing such issues as Envy, Anger, Gossip, Honesty and Jealousy, The Gift of Words acts as a bridge to reach out to students and open their minds to a broader world, personal achievement and learning than the one they see with in themselves.
