New Measures Designed to Protect Confidential Payroll Information

Payroll Network (, the largest independently-owned payroll management company that provides payroll processing and HR services to companies in the Washington, D.C. region, has added three state-of-the-art security features to protect against online data breaches and check fraud.

“Our clients entrust us with their employees’ personal information, and we have always been vigilant about protecting that information,” said Charlie Wolf, president and chief executive officer of Payroll Network. “We are constantly looking at ways to improve our security measures as hackers and other criminals remain a constant threat.”

In the past year, Payroll Network has implemented the following:

  • Improved tamper proof checks: New security features include a CopyBan Capture pantograph, to discourage unauthorized duplication on color copiers; Warning Bands, which instructs the person handling the check as to which security features should be present; Padlock Icons on both sides of the check; an Artificial Watermark on the back of the check; and special Fluorescent and Abrasion Inks.
  • FileGuardian: This application allows for files that contain personally identifiable information to be securely sent, received and stored. Security experts stress that social security numbers, account numbers, financial data and other business or personally identifiable information should never be sent via e-mail or fax.
  • Authentication login protection: While Payroll Network clients continue to use login passwords to access their payroll and HR solutions, additional authentication is occurring behind the scenes as a series of indicators are analyzed to assure the identity of the user. When necessary, the system requests additional proof of identity to access the system.

Payroll Network’s Chief Operations Officer, Rex Haverty, MCP, EVP, added, “In this day and age, we want our clients to know that we are taking every measure to protect their information and mitigate security threats.”

Payroll Network processes 100,000 payments each month; 70 percent are direct deposits while 30 percent are traditional paper checks.
