Matched dollars will be used to seed a tornado relief fund for Calhoun County

The Patterson Foundation will announce Wednesday that it will increase its commitment to match donations made through The JOY FM’s “Gift Cards for Alabama” drive, benefiting communities in rural Calhoun County, Ala., impacted by the April tornadoes.

Matching funds will be used to seed a tornado relief fund benefiting Calhoun County. The funds will be leveraged for the permanent needs of the community, including construction of permanent structures. These funds will assist the local economy, as local contractors will be hired to perform the work.

In early May, The Patterson Foundation – to inspire philanthropy and generosity – partnered with The JOY FM in Florida and committed to match up to $33,000 in donations received. Listeners throughout the West Coast of Florida donated gift cards in any amount from stores such as Wal-Mart and The Home Depot. Inspired by the outpouring of generosity from The JOY FM’s listeners, the foundation decided to increase the match.
