The Federal Alliance for Safe Homes, Inc.® (FLASH) has been named the recipient of the 2011 Partner of the Year Award by National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (National VOAD). FLASH is the country’s leading consumer advocate for strengthening homes and safeguarding families from natural and man-made disasters.

National VOAD is a national coordinating body for major community-based and faith-based disaster response organizations such as the American Red Cross, The Salvation Army, and Feeding America. The award will be announced at the 19th Annual VOAD Conference held in Kansas City, MO.

“FLASH is one of the most highly-rated and recognized public safety organizations in the country, and it is our pleasure to recognize them as the 2011 National VOAD Partner of the Year,” said Bob Leipold, Executive Director of National VOAD. “Since its founding in 1998, FLASH has educated the public about disaster preparedness with innovative, high-impact public safety campaigns, and has driven improvements to building standards so that homes are constructed or retrofitted to survive severe weather events,” he added.

“We’re extremely honored to be named the National VOAD 2011 Partner of the Year,” said Leslie Chapman-Henderson, President and CEO of FLASH. “We're proud of the strong working relationship we’ve cultivated between our organizations, and the positive impacts on disaster preparedness that have resulted from our combined efforts,” she added.

National VOAD is currently participating for the second year in the FLASH Great Hurricane Blowout (Blowout), which encourages the use of proven hurricane preparedness tools such as family plans, hurricane emergency kits, and tips for making structurally stronger homes. The Blowout also offers exciting and unique special events, social networking components, sweepstakes and giveaways designed to reach, engage, and educate a broad spectrum of coastal Americans. In addition, the Blowout encourages people to seek out and affiliate themselves with local VOAD organizations in their communities before a disaster strikes.
