The 2011 Emmitt Smith Celebrity Invitational raised more than $425,000 for Pat & Emmitt Smith Charities. Proceeds from this year’s event will support outreach programs, such as the new “Team 22” experience for underserved middle school students, educational scholarships and community grants.
“This is another big step in accomplishing our mission of creating opportunities and unique experiences for at-risk children,” said Pat Smith, President of Pat & Emmitt Smith Charities (PESC). “God has blessed us in finding ways to provide scholarships to fund many worthy programs that help deserving children. We want to use this tournament and other charity initiatives to make dreams come true and make a difference in their lives.”
The 2011 Emmitt Smith Celebrity Invitational Golf & Poker Tournaments included celebrity activities, special events, fundraising initiatives and sponsorship opportunities, all showcased at TPC Craig Ranch and the Westin Stonebriar Resort. Winfred Tubbs won the Celebrity Poker Tournament, Spud Webb took home top honors in the Celebrity Golf Tournament, and Mike Eruzione and Team Crest captured first place in the Celebrity-Style Pro-Am.
The Red Carpet Pairings Party, hosted by Deion Sanders, featured a “Suite 22” luxury experience lounge for celebrities and VIP’s by HAS Events. A live onsite and online video broadcast by Heritage Auctions featured extraordinary “fantasy” experiences. The unique “once-in-a-lifetime” experiences were open to any online bidder during the live video auction at http://www.ha.com/emmittsmith and included:
- A Royal Dinner Fantasy for 14 prepared by The Royal Chef, Darren McGrady, at the Dallas home of Pat & Emmitt Smith
- A Dancing with the Stars Season Finale Fantasy with Pat and Emmitt Smith
- A Cowboy Legends Poker Fantasy with Emmitt, Troy Aikman, and Daryl Johnston hosted by Dee Lincoln
- A Horse Lover’s Dream Fantasy featuring CF Jett, a royally-bred Black Arabian Stallion, and VIP tickets to the 2012 Kentucky Derby
- A custom-designed, and extremely rare limited edition Emmitt Smith Traxxas RC Truck autographed by the celebrities participating in the 2011 Emmitt Smith Celebrity Invitational
The final live auction item of the night sold out in less than two minutes as five couples raised their hands to join Pat & Emmitt for a weekend in Cabo San Lucas, courtesy of Quintess Collection, who donated their private villas to enjoy a very unique and personalized luxury experience. The live Heritage auction alone raised $88,000.
“Thank you guys once again for contributing your time, resources and finances to Pat & Emmitt Smith Charities. The kids that will be blessed by your gracious donations will be very excited when we tell them Team 22 is in effect,” said Emmitt Smith at the start of the Celebrity-Style Pro-Am golf tournament.
One child directly touched by this year’s event was Ja’Mesha Morgan, who was awarded the 2011 Children’s Defense Fund Beat the Odds Dallas PESC scholarship. She was also the surprise recipient of the Crest Award, a $1,000 scholarship that was presented to her at the event. Ja’Mesha has excelled academically, achieving a 3.71 GPA and is ranked first in her class at South Oak Cliff High School. As a result of these scholarships, she will be the first in her family to attend college and plans to pursue a doctorate in psychology.
PESC and the Northern Texas PGA teamed up to provide high school students from Thomas Jefferson High School in Dallas the opportunity to participate in a special youth golf clinic sponsored by Academy Sports and Outdoors. The participants were offered instruction by PGA professionals on the driving range, chipping green and putting green. During the Awards Ceremony, each student received a trophy from Pat and Emmitt Smith plus a Traxxas RC Truck as recognition for their accomplishment. Also honored at the Awards Ceremony was Alyssa Carillo, recipient of a Northern Texas PGA Junior Golf Foundation Scholarship which is funded by PESC.
