After weeks of deliberation, live interviews with finalist applicants and an extreme makeover on the line, the ITSM Extreme Makeover 2011 sponsor team announced The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio as the deserving winner. The sponsor team consists of executive sponsors Pink Elephant and Hornbill, along with participating sponsors HDI, Gaming Works, and Loyalist.

The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio was chosen over three other finalists in a unanimous decision from the sponsor team. The other finalists, in no particular order are: Salt Lake County Information Services; The University of Nevada, Las Vegas; and Hazelden Foundation.

“We're delighted to be lending Pink's ITSM expertise to The University of Texas Health Science Center as the winners of the ITSM Extreme Makeover for 2011,” said George Spalding, Executive VP at Pink Elephant, “Their awareness of the importance of culture in the improvement process was a critical factor. Also their realization that this was not going to be just some golden handshake from the sponsors; the makeover project can only succeed if they themselves provide the right resources and commitment. We're really looking forward to working with them, along with all the other sponsors, to showcase a great example of what can be achieved with the right approach and execution plan.”

“Although all of the finalists did an excellent job communicating their needs for an ITSM Extreme Makeover, University of Texas Health Science Center ticked all the boxes with the judging panel,” said Patrick Bolger, Chief Evangelist at Hornbill, “From the highest levels of leadership, through to the managers that will drive the project, their understanding, commitment and cultural readiness to resolve their challenges was evident. The ITSM Extreme Makeover team are poised to scope the project and start delivery, so now the real work begins.”

Each of the sponsor organizations will donate products, services and support to help The University of Texas Health Science Center achieve an ITSM transformation.

“We are truly excited to have been selected as the ITSM Extreme Makeover 2011 finalist!” said Jerry York, VP & CIO, University of Health Science Center at San Antonio, “Having the opportunity to work with Pink and their partners as we navigate through the challenges and opportunities of implementing a comprehensive ITSM project is special and will no doubt, be very rewarding. We look forward to sharing our journey with others and I suspect we will all learn a great deal over the upcoming months. I’m confident that this is the beginning of a very successful partnership! We realize that it’s time to roll up our sleeves and get to work.”

The makeover journey will be chronicled and shared across the globe on video, blogs and social networking sites. This project is a first of its kind in the industry and will provide a rare peek into how an IT Service Management (ITSM) organization can be transformed using best practices and good program management.
