White Plains, NY (PRWEB) May 27, 2011
Hospice & Palliative Care of Westchester (HPCW) is pleased to announce that Mary Spengler has joined HPCW as the Executive Director.
Spengler has played an instrumental role at HPCW since its founding 19 years ago. In 1991 Spengler was designated by White Plains Hospital Center to work with Visiting Nurse Services in Westchester to establish a joint Hospice program. This program became Hospice of Westchester, now HPCW. In addition to her initial work with the organization, Spengler has been an integral part of its development, expansion and strength. She has been a member of the Board of Directors, chaired and served on various Board Committees including the Governance Committee, Professional Advisory Committees, Strategic Planning and has been an active member of the Development Advisory Board.
Prior to the establishment of HPCW, Spengler began her nursing career at Flower Fifth Hospital in Manhattan where she worked for eight years. She then joined White Plains Hospital Center as Director of Nursing before becoming Vice President of Nursing and eventually moving on to hospital administration.
“We are thrilled that Mary Spengler will now be serving HPCW as Executive Director,” said Jennifer Watts, Board Chair. “Mary has been involved with HPCW from the beginning and has helped the organization to develop into an essential part of the Westchester healthcare community. The Board and staff are delighted that Mary Spengler will lead the organization forward as HPCW approaches its twenty year anniversary.”
Spengler also lends her time to various charities throughout the community. She is an advocate for Making Strides against Breast Cancer, the American Cancer Society and serves as a Reach to Recovery Volunteer. The YWCA of White Plains & Central Westchester recently recognized her as a “Leader of Women” in Westchester County for her work in the community for breast cancer awareness.
