Shaw Sportexe Responds to Penn State Synthetic Turf Fiber Wear Test Report.

Comparing the potential of a prospect yet to take the field in the big leagues with a retired player from three generations past may make for good sports radio, but is it any way to make a business decision?

1. PowerBlade HP+ is Shaw Sportexe’s current monofilament fiber product.

A recently distributed Penn State Synthetic Turf Fiber Wear Test Report intended to analyze currently available synthetic turf fibers includes Sportexe PowerBlade, a six-year old, first generation fiber that has not been available to the market in years. Shaw Sportexe’s current monofilament fiber is PowerBlade® HP+, featuring a proven diamond shaped cross-section. Hundreds of customers throughout the US and Canada have selected PowerBlade HP+ for their fields. Of all the PowerBlade HP+ fields installed, Shaw Sportexe has not experienced a single fiber related warranty claim. References can be provided upon request.

2. Penn State publishes revision in Synthetic Turf Fiber Wear Test Report.

After analysis of the results and physical confirmation that the incorrect product had been acquired and used, Shaw Sportexe informed Penn State of the error. A revision to the previously distributed report has been modified and republished to clarify that the product was a “first generation” Sportexe PowerBlade product. While we appreciate Penn State’s immediate willingness to amend and properly label the study, conclusions cannot be drawn from a test that compares a discontinued, six-year old first generation product with a newly unveiled product.

3. Fiber is one component of the performance system – including face weight, backing, infill mixes, installation and quality control.

Shaw Sportexe’s vertical integration ensures that our clients enjoy the best quality in the industry. Shaw Sportexe effectively controls every step of the process from extrusion, tufting and coating to installation, warranty – and on-going inspection by Shaw Sportexe employees to quantify performance. The PowerBlade HP+ system, including the fiber, backing and infill, is designed around critical performance tests that measure both athlete-surface and ball-surface interactions. This ensures that Shaw Sportexe delivers the best combination of durability, playability and safety.

4. Shaw Sportexe believes in independent testing – of currently available products.

Shaw Sportexe’s synthetic turf systems are highly engineered and tested to meet the demands of today’s fields. Products must first meet rigid in-house testing – including UV resistance, fiber tenacity and wear resistance – at our sports science laboratory in Dalton, GA, one of the most advanced and largest research and development centers of its kind in the United States. Only then can they undergo further testing with independent resources.
