I visited the Cannes Film Festival many years ago when I was studying culinary arts in France, so I was very happy to be personally invited as a vendor.

When you’ve showcased your work at the Oscars for two consecutive years, the next option would be to go international. And that’s just what a local boutique did earlier this month. Chocolatines participated in the 2011 Cannes Film Festival that wrapped on Sunday in the famous waterfront city of Cannes. The 64th annual edition of this star-studded event started on May 11th and showcased a variety of films from internationally renowned directors to up-and-coming directors, alike. At the culmination of this event, various awards are presented, including Best Actor/Actress, Prix Jury (Jury Prize) and the coveted Palme d’Or (Golden Palm) for the best film at the festival.
Chocolatines crafted more than 1,000 pieces of artisan chocolate bars for the festival in France. The chocolate gifts were presented to VIP celebrities, the illustrious jury and award recipients. The products offered include the Chaplin Bar (a nutty combination of pistachio, cranberry, white peppercorn, sea salt, almonds and peanuts on white chocolate bark) as homage to Charlie Chaplin and the Playback Reel Bar (made with 72% dark chocolate and infused with scotch). These products will be available for sale on the Chocolatines website in June 2011.
“I visited the Cannes Film Festival many years ago when I was studying culinary arts in France, so I was very happy to be personally invited as a vendor,” Rieko Wada states. As the Owner and Master Chocolatier of Chocolatines, she has crafted outstanding pieces that are suited for A-List celebrities, public figures and royalty. As her celebrity portfolio continues to grow, her company’s presence is requested at exclusive galas, award shows and charity benefits. This year’s VIPs included Robert De Niro (who also served as the 2011 President of the Cannes Jury), Kirsten Dunst, Jude Law, Uma Thurman and Ryan Gosling.
