Dahn Yoga Community: An Outreach Class for Yavapai-Apache Seniors

Seven years later Tony is still doing his part to improve the lives of others. Still, he remains modest about his many accomplishments. "I believe one of the greatest effects we can have on humanity is that of a role model for each other."

Dahn Yoga & Health Centers, Inc., one of the nation's leaders in health and wellness, announces a Community Spotlight for May 2011. It recognizes the work of a dedicated instructor who has shared Dahn Yoga benefits with many by teaching free classes to seniors of the Yavapai-Apache Nation located in Arizona.

Tony Dionisio first discovered Dahn Yoga classes many years ago in Ridgefield, New Jersey. Suffering from poor health and in searching for more in his life, Tony was inspired to do more after he became an active member of the Dahn Yoga community. Tony took his yoga practice to the next level by teaching outreach classes to seniors, special needs students and corporate employees, and then in 2004 he moved to Clarksdale, Arizona. It was there that he began working with the elder citizens of the Yavapai-Apache Nation and adapted Dahn Yoga exercises to incorporate their age-old healing practices and spiritual traditions.

Tony was so successful that the Nation's Wellness and Diabetes Department asked him to lend his efforts to their main reservation at Camp Verde, Arizona. It wasn't long before his Dahn Yoga classes skyrocketed to popularity and were offered five days a week, benefiting more than 2,000 residents on the reservation. Seven years later Tony is still doing his part to improve the lives of others. Still, he remains modest about his many accomplishments. "I believe one of the greatest effects we can have on humanity is that of a role model for each other….What a great opportunity!"
