Starving Students Inc. is pleased to announce its sponsorship of The Jewish Federation for the Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters annual Gear Up For Camp Day on June 5, 2011 at Max Straus Camp. Starving Students Inc. has donated its services to many charities for nearly 40 years and is excited about providing its support to deserving children, especially during these difficult economic times. Since 1938, Camp Max Straus has provided a camping experience for over 1,000 underserved children ages 7 to 13 regardless of race, religion or ability to pay. Since its inception, the camp has served close to 50,000 children. Camp Max Straus is owned and operated by Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles. Every year since 1996, The Jewish Federation and its volunteers have helped these children get ready for summer camp. Gear Up For Camp Day provides these children with the clothing, toiletries and supplies they need to enjoy a week at Camp Max Straus.

A representative of The Jewish Federation commented, “Providing 1000 children with these supplies, as well as the festival day for them and their extended families, is significant. We rely heavily on donations from numerous community partners to help us produce this day. The free pickup and delivery service that Starving Students provides allows us to use the money we would otherwise spend on supplies for the children. We thank you!”

As the hub of the Jewish community, The Jewish Federation works to create a presence that meets needs and inspires lives and leads directly to the future we wish for our children’s children. Leveraging the generosity of its donors, its strategic expertise and the talents of its partners in Los Angeles, in Israel and internationally, it focuses on three areas: Caring for Jews in Need, Ensuring the Jewish Future, and Engaging with the Community. Gear Up For Camp Day is just one of the many ways it works to help build a better Los Angeles and a better world.
