Acromegaly Community (http://www.acromegalycommunity.com) launched a new web-based community platform designed to provide information, support and personal interactions to patients coping with the rare disease. Within a month, the site had over 200 members sharing stories, tips and experiences as well as new donations, a book for sale and even selling tickets to their community events.
“Never before have we had so much interaction and interest. Within a week of launching, we had inquiries from supporting industries, donations and over 100 people joined our community” reported Wayne Brown who runs the Acromegaly Community. “Our goal is to let patients and their loved ones know we are here for them but also to let the medical community know we are here – for education on patient perspective, as well as social and emotional support for their patients. Our new SocialRaise web platform helps put us on the map. It helps people find us and find each other!” According to Brown, SocialRaise has made it easier for stabilized patients to befriend and support newer patients, patients in need and their loved ones.
SocialRaise has a focused approach for rare disease organizations and recently held a series of webinars on Disease Affiliated Social Fundraising, Community Building and Leveraging Awareness to Drive Research Grant Funding. The webinars are scheduled to run again but the presentations are available for free on the Resources section on their site at http://www.socialraise.com.
SocialRaise offers a web-based platform designed specifically for non-profits that leverages social media tools (viral marketing, social networking, etc.) to drive engagement and ways to increase organizational revenue (online fundraising, e-commerce, event ticket sales, and advertising) to help non-profits achieve their goals.
