We’re taking the latest social networking concepts and extending them offline to create a social environment where people can communicate, collaborate and see what other people are doing
Lanham, MD (PRWEB) June 01, 2011
Vocus, Inc. (NASDAQ: VOCS), a leading provider of cloud-based marketing and PR software, is nearing completion of its new multi-million dollar headquarters in Beltsville, MD, conveniently located between Washington, D.C. and Baltimore. The new office will replace the company’s current three-building headquarters campus in Lanham, Md., just outside of Washington, DC. Construction on the new facility, designed by OTJ Architects, began in 2010 and is set to be complete at the end of the summer.
The new location will be a premier work destination inspired by the town planning principles of New Urbanism. A concept blending modern architecture with a small town experience, the building is modeled to look and feel like an indoor city; specifically the community of Seaside, FL.
It even includes a literal street—an Americana-infused “Main Street”—that runs through the spacious 93,000 square feet of office space, complete with different facades and stores including a record store, school house and spa. It’s not just for show—each store is also a conference room, meeting place or staff facility. The company’s entire executive team has been involved in the process of building out the new HQ and Main Street, as has an employee committee. No detail has been overlooked; for example, to maximize natural light, there are no offices along the exterior walls, the building is further lit by skylights and the ceiling is painted sky blue.
“Our vision was to create a place that wasn’t just an office, but a destination. And we’re doing just that. We’re taking the latest social networking concepts and extending them offline to create a social environment where people can communicate, collaborate and see what other people are doing,” says Rick Rudman, CEO of Vocus. “Our new headquarters will be a place where our employees will enjoy spending their time, and where they have all the amenities they need to maintain a work life balance. We are revolutionizing the workplace.”
This concept is not unheard of for Vocus. The company, known to work hard and play hard, already has a headquarters that includes a half-court basketball court, offers free Yoga classes, and comes complete with pool and ping-pong tables, free sodas and coffee, and other life-balance amenities.
Some features of the new building include:
- A massage center and spa
- A half-court basketball court and state-of-the art fitness center.
- An on-site café providing fresh lunch and dinner provided by local Maryland caterer (La Prima)
- A free juice bar in the gym area and a self-serve candy store
- Dry cleaning pickup/drop off service
- A game room packed with old-fashioned arcade games, ping-pong, pool and Wii
- A relaxation and quiet area complete with lounge chairs
- A radio station for company news and music, a coffee shop (free, as always, at Vocus), and so much more
“This move is not only an investment in our employees, but also shows our continued investment in our local area,” says Rudman. The new Beltsville headquarters, like the current Lanham office, is located in Prince Georges County, Maryland. Vocus remains committed to Prince Georges County; the company recently received a Corporate Philanthropy Award from the Washington Business Journal for most volunteer hours for local giving.
