EIKO Ltd., a Kansas City based manufacturer and distributor of first-class lighting products, was recognized for its environmental efforts by Pratt Industries, the sixth largest paper and packaging company in the U.S., and a business dedicated to the environment and sustainability.
“To be environmentally friendly requires more than just selling efficient products,” said Rick Roberts, executive vice-president. “It’s about actively working to reduce waste, either through recycling or by reducing the amount of paper we use in our products and our day-to-day operations.”
As part of its Certified Green initiative, EiKO uses corrugated boxes made from 100 percent recycled paper, in addition to using recycled paper for catalogs, price books and other printed literature. The company’s primary print vendor is also Forest Stewardship Council accredited, meaning that its paper comes from sources that work to eliminate habitat destruction, water pollution, the displacement of indigenous peoples and violence against the people and wildlife that often accompanies logging.
Recently, EiKO began using a paperless workflow and digital archiving system that allows purchase orders, faxes, invoices and other documents to be digitally generated, handled and archived, minimizing waste and the need for recycling.
In the last year alone, EiKO saved approximately 697 trees, 184,500 gallons of fresh water, 127,100 kilowatt hours of electricity, and 86 cubic yards of landfill space.
For more than 30 years, EiKO Ltd. has delivered the industry's best lighting products. Carrying over 3,000 SKUs and the broadest selection of any manufacturer in its class, EiKO is committed to providing innovative products, unique solutions and unmatched support to its customers.
