City of Refuge and HEAL, organizations that each exist to serve the inner city of Atlanta, united to build the new clinic in order to expand their ability to offer direct services to a medically underserved area of Atlanta. Over a six-month period, money was raised to build the clinic, which was able to open its doors with zero debt. LocumTenens.com is proud to be the lead donor on this project.

“Our mission at LocumTenens.com is to improve the quality of healthcare for patients by assuring that patients have access to the providers they need,” said Shane Jackson, president of LocumTenens.com. “We are proud to be involved with such vital organizations for the city of Atlanta, and our associates are excited to get involved.”

“Many of our physicians will be excited to volunteer as well, and we’re hopeful that we will be able to help fill any coverage needs they may have at the clinic.”

“The decision to build a full clinic was a result of seeing the need for expanded medical services – our small, one room makeshift clinic was not meeting the needs of our area,” said Tony Johns, director of community involvement at City of Refuge.

Previously medical services were available Tuesday through Saturday in small area located within City of Refuge, serving approximately 500 patients a month. The new clinic will see approximately 1,500 patients a month, and will offer specialty services. Specialty services will be added over the course of the next several months and will include:

  • Dental
  • Mental Health
  • Ear, Nose & Throat
  • Audiology
  • Speech Pathology
  • Pulmonology
  • Asthma
  • Urology
  • Cardiology
  • Podiatry/foot care
  • Ob/GYN
