Created by Washington D.C. Area Web Design Firm, Blue Water Media, The More Visually Appealing and Intuitively Structured Website Makes it Easier for Engaged Citizens to Report Fraud.

The Office of Inspector General Department (OIG) of Health and Human Services (HHS) just launched a new website,, designed by Washington DC area web design firm, Blue Water Media. Blue Water Media successfully collaborated with OIG to make the site as efficient and effective as possible, creating more intuitive navigation, streamlined content, and launching a Twitter campaign. The improvements will help the Office of Inspector General better achieve its mission to protect the integrity of Department of Health & Human Services programs as well as the health and welfare of program beneficiaries.

A bright and engaging homepage showcasing an image slideshow of “hot topics” engages site visitors immediately upon entry, and a prominent “I’m looking for” call to action ensures users find what they are looking for easily and efficiently. Other well-placed call to actions such as “Report Fraud” and “Get Email Updates” further encourage interaction with the site and substantial content revisions and reorganization on all major pages further improves clarity of information presented.

In addition to providing a clear roadmap to the rest of the site, the homepage links to the new custom designed OIG Twitter profile, @OIGatHHS. The objective of the Twitter campaign will be to connect the OIG with its stakeholders and the public; share information with stakeholders about OIG’s reports, investigations, news, and events; and increase hits to the OIG website as part of ongoing efforts to educate stakeholders and the public about the wealth of information and resources available on the site.

The strategically redesigned website and optimized Twitter presence will help OIG to more effectively communicate with and assist the health care industry in their efforts to comply with health care fraud and abuse laws. The improvements will also help OIG to educate the public about fraudulent schemes so they can protect themselves and report suspicious activities.

About the US Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General
Since its 1976 establishment, OIG has been at the forefront of the Nation's efforts to fight waste, fraud and abuse in Medicare, Medicaid and more than 300 other HHS programs. HHS OIG is the largest inspector general's office in the Federal Government, with more than 1,700 employees dedicated to combating fraud, waste and abuse and to improving the efficiency of HHS programs. A majority of OIG's resources are directed toward the oversight of Medicare and Medicaid — programs that represent a significant part of the Federal budget and that affect this country's most vulnerable citizens. OIG's oversight extends to programs run by other HHS agencies, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institutes of Health, and the Food and Drug Administration.
