Whether you're a first-time visitor taking an auto tour of Cades Cove, or long-time fan of the park exploring a new trail - the Chimani Great Smoky Mountains app will soon become your best friend.
Yarmouth, ME (PRWEB) June 02, 2011
Chimani, LLC announced today it has released its newest app - Chimani Great Smoky Mountains National Park - for the iPhone and Android platforms.
The Great Smoky Mountains app, an indispensable resource for anyone exploring the #1 most visited national park in the United States, delivers a 60 minute audio tour of Newfound Gap Road and Cades Cove, a high-resolution GPS-enabled map, constantly updated ranger led activities, over 125 photos featuring the work of Ron Hutchinson and much more.
Users can view sunset and sunrise times for the most memorable scenic overlooks (including Clingmans Dome - the park's most popular sunrise destination), plan hikes, review key safety information, learn about over 250 points of interest and access a complete list of facilities including locations of all the restrooms, campgrounds and picnic areas in the park.
Like the Acadia National Park and Yosemite National Park apps that preceded it, the Great Smoky Mountains app boasts a rich and impressive map interface that is custom-made, GPS-enabled, includes every hiking trail in the park, and displays interactive points of interest. Unlike other apps for the park, the map works without the need for a cell or data connection and is specifically designed for the mobile app platform.
"Whether you're a first-time visitor taking an auto tour of Cades Cove, or long-time fan of the park exploring a new trail - the Chimani Great Smoky Mountains app will soon become your best friend," says Chimani President, Kerry Gallivan. "Chimani develops mobile apps strictly for national parks - from the ground up - and we use only the latest map data and technology to produce the most reliable maps.”
Users rave about the ability to follow their progress using the GPS feature, even when cell coverage fails or isn't available at all. "Like all the features of this app, you don't need cell access to unleash its full capabilities. Whether you are simply trying to find the closest restroom or taking the audio tour of the park (with over 60 minutes of professionally narrated material), you'll always be able to enjoy the full experience of the app," says Gallivan.
The new iPhone app can be downloaded from Apple's iTunes App Store and the Android version from the Android Marketplace (keyword: "chimani"). The iPhone app is free for a limited time and the Android version is available at an introductory price of 99 cents.
The Great Smoky Mountain Park app is the latest in a series of apps by Chimani, including Acadia National Park, Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Grand Canyon National Park, Yosemite National Park, Zion National Park and the Cape Cod National Seashore apps. All are available in Android versions as well as the original iPhone versions.
