MCCI® Corporation, MCCI’s USB 3.0 system software stack for Windows was used by Asmedia to gain the USB-IF SuperSpeed logo certification for Asmedia’s ASM1042 USB 3.0 host controller. Asmedia is the first company in Taiwan to gain USB-IF certification for a USB host controller.
“As system complexity increases, the boundary between hardware and software becomes more and more difficult to define,” says MCCI CEO Terry Moore. “MCCI has very good hardware and software expertise which helped in making this partnership successful”.
Moore noted that MCCI’s Taipei development center played a critical role in the development of this product. “The MCCI team in Taipei did much of the initial development work, and then was able to give Asmedia very active support. Later, while testing in Oregon, MCCI provided top-notch on-site support with engineers from MCCI’s development center in Ithaca, NY.”
“MCCI’s support was critical to Asmedia’s success,” said Asmedia CEO Chewei Lin. “Whenever there was a problem, MCCI’s engineers reacted immediately. The depth of technical support available really helped, too; the team could always escalate to the MCCI’s senior engineers, several of whom participated in the development of the original USB 1.0 and 2.0 specifications, others who have been solving difficult system problems for thirty or forty years. MCCI is world class in their approach to customers. Combining that with their technical strength, inventive problem solving, and international reach is unique.”
MCCI’s Windows host stack was developed by combining MCCI’s USB3 stack for embedded systems, the MCCI USB DataPump, with wrappers specific to the Windows operating system. “Although the tests involved in the USB-IF logo certification validate the design of the ASM1042, they also depended on the correctness and compatibility of the MCCI host stack,” Moore said. “The tests that went into getting the USB-IF logo certification for Asmedia’s USB host controller also applied to MCCI’s stack. MCCI’s embedded host stack for USB 3.0 is therefore the most thoroughly-tested in the industry; the testing shows it to be very compatible, and it has proven to be very stable.”
“It was a great pleasure working with Asmedia,” Moore said. “Their technical skill, professionalism and dedication to quality and teamwork helped us improve our product and pass the very challenging tests. MCCI is proud to have been selected by Asmedia for this partnership and to be part of the first USB 3.0 host controller certified by a Taiwan manufacturer."
