“Our clients are pleased to know that the results of the testing have proven the permissible exposure levels and are appreciative of our devotion to ensure their safety,” said John Ciambrone.

The greenroom, one of the premiere salons in South Florida, has always maintained a dedicated commitment to delivering the ultimate service and care to their clients. In addition to creating fabulous styles, hair treatments and hair color, the greenroom has considered it of equal importance to ensure a safe environment while visiting the salon. It is for this reason, that the greenroom proactively sought out a formaldehyde vapor test to be conducted in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
The indoor air quality testing focused on formaldehyde vapors that may have been present due to various treatments conducted in a salon setting, such as keratin straightening treatments. The Formaldehyde Vapor Monitor measured both personal exposure and room concentrations, which is then validated for accuracy, and analyzed in an AIHA accredited laboratory.
“We made the decision to conduct environmental testing due to the mass amount of misinformation that is being circulated,” said Steven Jackson. “Many of our clients and other consumers seem to be receiving information on salon safety from 'sound bites' in the news and we wanted to take the opportunity to provide them with the complete story.”
According to Advanced Chemical Sensors Inc. of Boca Raton, Fla., “The OSHA permissible exposure limit (PEL) is 0.75 ppm, based on personal exposure for an 8 hour period. There is also an “action level” of 0.5 ppm. The OSHA short-term exposure limit (STEL) is 2.0 ppm, based on a 15-minute period.”
The testing, completed on February 9, 2011 at the greenroom, showed a concentration of 0.17 ppm marking below both the OSHA permissible exposure limit and below the action level. The results of this 8-hour test, show concentration levels to be non hazardous, proving a healthy environment for greenroom patrons.
“Our clients are pleased to know that the results of the testing have proven the permissible exposure levels and are appreciative of our devotion to ensure their safety,” said John Ciambrone. “We have actively spread the word among clients through our staff of stylists as well as posted our certification badge at the front desk to temper any concerns.”
As new products are introduced in the industry, the greenroom will continue to offer their clients the best in haircare innovation available. However, owners Steven and John continue to take precaution, act proactively, and are indefinitely dedicated to the safety of their clientele.

About the ACS Badge
The device weighs less than 1 ounce (28 grams). Air diffuses through a micro-porous membrane, and collects on special prepared adsorbents inside the monitoring badge. The ACS laboratory analyzes the chemicals collected, and reports the average concentration while the device was exposed.
