The New York State Interfaith Network for Immigration Reform thanked Governor Cuomo for staying true to the values of faith communities by suspending S-Comm in New York.

Lisa Sharon Harper and Diane Steinman, co-chairs of the New York State Interfaith Network for Immigration Reform, thanked Governor Cuomo for being true to the values of our faith communities, state and nation by suspending S-Comm in New York:

“The New York State Interfaith Network for Immigration Reform is profoundly grateful to Governor Andrew Cuomo for his decision to lead our state down the path of justice and compassion by ending New York's participation in Secure Communities (S-Comm). As more than 130 diverse New York State faith community leaders said in the Interfaith Network's letter to the Governor on April 1, S-Comm's devastating impact on immigrant lives and families through increased detentions and deportations would betray the shared values of our faith communities, our state and our nation without making New Yorkers more safe and secure. Through his decision to suspend New York's participation in the program, he has chosen to reaffirm the principles that are at the root of New York's greatness, and we thank him for it.”
