We’ve all heard the phrase, most of us have used it at some point, from the old school ‘go suck an egg’ to the modern usage. Sometimes things just ‘suck’ and that became the inspiration for Aspenmark Roofing’s marketing campaign Haildamagesucks.com & Roofleakssuck.com.
The company received some extra publicity from Steve Blow of the Dallas Morning News who called the North Texas billboards crass in a blog post last week. The campaign launched in March, well before the damaging hail storms of May 24th, and hinges on a memorable phrase to drive traffic to their website.
Aspenmark president and CEO Chris Zazo says he didn’t intend to start a grammar war or an Idiocracy debate, he just wants people to get the information they need via an easy to remember website, “This is how some people cope with the aftermath of a disaster – it’s awful, it sucks and that’s the emotion we’re connecting to with our campaign. Plus it’s an easy website for drivers to remember when they pass one of our billboards across North Texas.”
“I want our customers to know that this campaign is not about capitalizing on the terrible losses they suffered last week but I’m happy the billboards are getting noticed,” he said.
Zazo added that he believes the Miami Heat, Lebron James and terrorism also suck, but will continue to focus his marketing dollars on the roof repair message.
