Author Vidur Dindayal has written a second tome documenting the achievements of Guyanese immigrants. Vidur’s first book focused on Guyanese in Great Britain. This book looks at Guyanese in North America. Guyanese Achievers, USA & Canada: A Celebration (published by Trafford Publishing) records the achievements of Guyanese, such as, Sir James Douglas, who was the governor of Vancouver when it was a colony. He held the same position in British Columbia in the 1850s. “Today he is celebrated as ‘the father of British Columbia,” says Vidur.
The achievements of Guyanese immigrants provided the inspiration to write Guyanese Achievers, USA & Canada: A Celebration. “I wanted to showcase these people as exemplars of achievement and as role models for the young,” Vidur says.
The book is a compendium of over 100 profiles of successful Guyanese immigrants who share a common heritage. Vidur records how each individual ignored barriers, embraced their inventiveness and strived for greatness.
Vidur writes about notable professionals, such as, Dr. Belle Tyndall, an authority on English as a Foreign Language, Professor Suresh Narine, a world leader in the field of agro-energy; and Dr. Vincent Adams, Office Director, United States Department of Energy.
Vidur explains, “This is a ‘yes-I-can’ book that should inspire people who are told they ‘can’t’ because they really ‘can’ and these Guyanese prove it.”
