On June 3, 2011 Reaching U Network helped save the home of Mrs. Felicia Davis. Twenty two years ago Felicia Davis was living in a low rent apartment complex when she came across a group volunteering at her church called Habitat for Humanity. Out of curiosity she asked what they did and when they told her they help build homes for those that need them, she was in awe that such an organization existed. She was then surprised when they told her she could apply for the program. So Mrs. Davis applied for the home and was ecstatic when she learned she had been approved. She would now have a home she could call her own for her and her 7 year old son Brandon. The community and her church came together to help build her home piece by piece, Mrs. Davis couldn’t believe that her dream of owning a home was coming true.
Six months ago Mrs. Davis fell ill, her health began to deteriorate, her medical bills piled up and the contract at the school where she had been working for over 25 years, ended. As a single mom, she began having a trouble making payments to her mortgage and fell behind. After 22 years of making her monthly payments on time Mrs. Davis was devastated that she could not make the last 4 monthly installments totaling $3021.50 to pay off her home. The stress took a toll on her health leaving her incapable to walk and although Habitat for Humanity strives not only to help a homeowner obtain a home but also to maintain it, in this rare case they could not help and Mrs. Davis’ home went into foreclosure proceedings.
“I have had good times & bad times in this home, I have cleaned blood on the floor from my child’s first booboo to my own, good or bad that has happened, this is the only home my son and I have known, it’s contains our life history and the thought of it being taken away is devastating.” – Felicia Davis
Family and friends all wished they could help Mrs. Davis with the little left owed on her home but, due to the tough economical times, no one unfortunately could. Then one day Mrs. Davis received a call from her sister Stacy letting her know of an organization called Reaching U Network that was able to help and who were reaching out to her to assist. With the help of Richard Chosid, a Freedom Legal Plans attorney, who contacted Habitat for Humanity and worked out an arrangement with them to prevent Mrs. Davis’ foreclosure, Reaching U Network came to an agreement with Habitat for Humanity that they would pay off the remainder of the balance owed on Mrs. Davis’ mortgage. Full payment on the remaining balance was made and Mrs. Davis received her mortgage satisfaction letter.
Mrs. Davis, a Christian woman, says everyday she is extremely grateful for the blessing she has received and now that the tremendous weight of losing her home has been lifted, her health has improved and she has started to walk again. Mrs. Davis’ touching story is an example that there is hope in saving your home when one feels all is lost, Mrs. Davis stated it best when she said “God made my dream come true when Habitat for Humanity helped me get a house, but God gave me a miracle when Reaching U Network helped save my house”.
